Rudy King has stepped down as the head coach of Bishop Loughlin's boys basketball team, the Daily News has learned.
King officially resigned Tuesday afternoon, and sources are pointing toward former All Hallow's coach Ed Gonzalez as being his possible replacement.
When contacted Wednesday, King said he thought resigning was the best move after finding out that Loughlin's administration was looking for a possible replacement. Loughlin's athletic director Angela Proce didn't return calls Wednesday.
"I was concerned to hear that they were continuing with the interview process," King told the Daily News. "I thought from us doing well this year that we were going in the right direction. I thought I earned that right to be here at least another year."
In his first year as Loughlin's head coach this past season, King led the Lions to a 16-11 record and a run to the CHSAA 'AA' Intersectional semis, where they lost to Christ the King. Before last season, King had served as a Loughlin assistant coach for four years. He intends to continue coaching basketball on the grass-roots level.
